PES and PSD leadership hold constructive meeting in Brussels

PES President Sergei Stanishev met the Prime Minister of Romania and interim President of PSD, Viorica Dăncilă during her official visit to Brussels yesterday.

President of PES Sergei Stanishev said:

“I am pleased to re-start a dialogue with Viorica Dăncilă, as Prime Minister of Romania and the new interim President of PSD, following the PES’s decision to freeze relations with the PSD at the beginning of April.

“The Romanian Government’s decision not to pursue judicial reform is a positive sign. We encourage the Government to continue on this path and to stay constructively engaged with the European Commission.

“I am also pleased that Prime Minister Dăncilă affirmed PSD’s commitment to progressive and social policies, which are desperately needed to regain citizens trust in Romania and all over Europe”.

The meeting of Sergei Stanishev and Viorica Dăncilă took place just a few weeks ahead of the next PES presidency meeting, where the latest developments with the Romanian PSD will be discussed.
